Malta was another new country to visit. Again, did the research then did some more to find places that had closed. It’s fairly easy to get around the islands (in theory) by bus but quite often they don’t turn up or terminate short and then the next one is rammed and impossible to join!
Breweries
The Brew
74, The Strand Tas, Tas-Sliema SLM 1022, Malta.
Daily 12-02
Situated on the harbour front in Sliema, with a terrace as well as a very comfortable inside, nine of their beers brewed in house are available along with a rather interesting ‘IPArol Spritz’! Tasting trays of 4, 5, 6 and 7 beers are available. The food’s rather good too.

Lord Chambray
Mgarr Road, Ix-Xewkija XWK 9014, Malta.
Mon-Sat 14-18
Situated on the island of Gozo, Lord Chambray have a small taproom with outside seating selling a good selection of their beers. Shame they’re only open a few hours each day. There’s a bus stop outside that’s conveniently on the route between the ferry port and Victoria.

Stretta
No taproom
The Brewhouse containing Farsons, The Chapels, Red Mill Brewing and Cisk Brewery Tap
Mdina Road, Zone 2, Central Business District, CBD 2010, Malta.
Farson’s original brewery is now home to the Cisk Tap serving Cisk and Farson’s beers which are pretty much bog-standard lagers. Farson’s Green Hop IPA wasn’t too bad. Nice outdoor seating area.
A few floors down is The Chapels, a micro brewery situated alongside some of the old brewery’s equipment. Quite acceptable beers with an even nicer outside area.
Red Mill Brewing seems to be a totally separate project to The Chapels but it’s brewed by the The Chapels brewer on The Chapels brewkit.

Huskie
No tap
TOBCo (The Other Brewery Co)
Only discovered on my last night at a pub that wanted €6.50 a can so didn’t really get to try too many of them. They say they’re opening a taproom at some point so this might be something to keep an eye on.
A few bars I tried
67 Kapitali
67 Old Bakery Street, Valletta, Malta, VLT 1426
They say they’re not owned by Lord Chambray, but they serve a good number of their beers on draught, but pretty much the same range as the Lord Chambray tap. They also serve a number of bottles from other Maltese breweries along with excellent food. The two item platter would easily have served two!
The Crafty Cat Pub – The Hoppy Hare Pub – The Hatter Irish Pub – Down The Rabbit Hole
Various locations in Sliema and St Julians
They bill themselves as the best craft beer pubs in Malta. I went in two, and pretty much anything ‘craft’ was from Belgium and Poland. Nothing wrong with beers from these countries – I quite like them but I’d rather drink Maltese beer in Malta thank you!
Hole in the Wall
Address: 31 High Street Tas, 31 High Street, Sliema SLM 1549, Malta
Evidently Malta’s oldest pub. A few local beers available.
Popp
Address: Pjazza Annunzjata, Sliema SLM 1450, Malta
Close to Hole in the Wall is Malta’s newest brewpub. Quite a nice interior along with a full size snooker table in a fantastic building. A few bottles along with four draught beers, although only two were local.

The Black Sheep
72, The Strand Tas, Tas-Sliema SLM 1022, Malta.
Situated next door to The Brew, they serve a couple of Lord Chambray beers. Nice, comfortable interior.
Wild Honey
Social media showing them currently closed, reopening ‘soon’ and in a new location
Piadina
33 Steps
Two bars in central Valletta. Not really craft beer destinations but both serve local beers if you’re doing the touristy thing in the area.
